Deborah Clarke Reeves Why Am I Redesigning Rooms? Room redesign and decorating is my third career and actually I think it’s in my genes. Originally from New Jersey, I was born to original and creative parents. My mother was an artist who specialized in furniture and painting restoration, as well as doing some interior decorating. My father (whose mother was also an artist) was an electrician who really loved to invent things and had a great eye for color and style. I grew up watching and helping my mother decorate and re-arrange rooms at home. I thought everyone did that. My parents didn’t seem to think it was at all strange and I’ve been doing it ever since for myself and friends. It’s really what I love to do; that, and using color. I know from experience what a difference it can make when you change the look and feel of a room using things you already own. It gives you such a lift that it’s as if you had bought new things, without the hassle or expense. It’s like arranging your hair differently or mixing and matching parts of your wardrobe to create new combinations. So, it was time to leave the corporate world and to do something that makes people feel good about their surroundings. As owner of Amethyst Interior Redesign, I can do just that. What Else About Me? My other passion in life is the theatre and I currently direct, act and stage manage regularly at several local community theatres. I am married and have a sixteen-year-old son (who is a room re-arranger himself).
